Life Saving Assistance

February 2017

Can you imagine living in a house on the largest hill overlooking Laguna Beach, California and waking up to the sounds of the ocean? How about loving your fast-paced job and enjoying the perks of your hard work over the years, while helping others? Scott Strack did just that until he ended up in the middle of a five-car pileup on the freeway.  He walked away from the wreck but, when he woke up two months later, he was paralyzed from the waist down.

That was 10 years ago. He has since sold everything he owns in California, undergone numerous surgeries and therapies, and moved back to St. Louis to be with family. He is mobile now but, he says, “Every day, 15 times a day, I feel like a knife is being shoved down in my lower spine, and the other pain is chronic. I’ve been on heavy narcotics, then got addicted and went through withdrawal. I’ve been off narcotics for two years but I still need medication to function, to sleep, and to help with the depression I endure from the pain and from my challenges.”

Scott has insurance which pays for most of the medication, but struggles with paying the deductible. “I was just bleeding my family for money and I was living out of my car for a year. Being destitute is so hard and humbling and extremely depressing! You just find yourself crying….”

Scott now receives assistance from the pharmacy program, which helps him pay for his medication. He’s now helping with a friend’s business. Scott credits you for helping him pull his life together. “I don’t know how to put it. It’s saved my life! I could not pay my bills. I wouldn’t be able to pay for insurance. It’s a blessing from God that I found the program!”
