A gun was fired near her home. Fearing for her and her children's safety, they immediately left with no backup plan.
Jessica and her children began staying on friends' couches. She had to make sure her children were taken care of while going to and from work everyday.
With nowehere else to turn, Jessica was referred to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Vincentians from St. Vincent de Paul worked with Jessica over a period of six months to find a house in a safe neighborhood, pay first and last month's rent and cover an outstanding utility bill.
They also took Jessica to one of the St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores to buy a table.
Jessica and her children are now living in a safe home close to schools and Jessica's work and spend time together around their new kitchen table.
